They're very effective against some enemies, but any ship with an engy crewman or system repair drones will usually extinguish the fire before it does more than 1 point of system damage. They do direct damage to any crew in the room where they explode (I think 30 points). Ion weapons are a big help for this, but still be careful of the raging fire destroying the hull before the crew.įire bombs with no boarder support are iffy. It can be hard sometimes to juggle spreading the fire to kill crew, keeping the shields (and/or medbay/weapons) offline, and not destroying their hull.

The fire beam with no backup boarders can be very effective for a crew-kill victory, but bear in mind that whenever a system is fully damaged (red) the ship takes 1 hull damage. It is hilarious, fun, and very effective. Your Rocks will win pretty much any fight while standing in a fire, as the enemy is taking massive fire damage and the Rocks are not. While your crew is in the room, the enemy crew is forced to fight them and cannot extinguish the fire. Like you guys discussed below, fire weapons are also a great way to kill enemy crew, especially when combined with Rock boarders. Just hitting the room definitely isn't good enough, and needing to hit their portrait/red dot directly doesn't seem to be necessary. The upvoted answer here seems off to me - įrom what I've seen, all beams including the anti-bio beam must hit the square that the enemy is standing on in order to do personnel damage. Bonus points if you use fire instead of a breach to make them be on their toes before they even have to deal with the lack of oxygen. If you can use a breach to destroy and de-oxygen a room they'll have to devote a crewmember to repairing it, and if they can't fix it before he runs out of air they'll have to move another guy in to finish the job. A Fire Beam combined with firing at the weakened fire-fighting crewmembers would be effective if you can set it up.Īlso, O2, while easily repaired, can be a really good target for a fire or boarding based ship. Fires are also quite effective if you can get a good blaze going. Weapons do damage to crew in the room with them, so if you really wanted to you could concentrate your fire on injured crewmembers, although it would probably take a while and you might kill the ship before you kill the crew. Just be prepared to lose half your firepower if you run into a Mantis or Rock ship without a Mantis or Rock boarding crew.

With the extra scrap you earn from it you might be able to buy a level 2 upgrade for it and a power bar to boot. Never underestimate a teleporter, though. My best guess would be it has to pass through the square they're on. I believe Anti-Bio Beam doesn't have any other version.
